Growing up in a hardworking, Midwestern family, I have a true appreciation for the handcrafted. My early exposure to the vibrant colors and patterns of my mother’s quilts, has been the central influence of my large, wood-tiled pieces.
like my mother, my work is created with calculated quilting patterns. I use salvaged wood pieces, cut them down to small parallelograms, paint them, and organize them according to the pattern.
My work blends modernism and naturalism, while paying homage to the arts and crafts movement. I hope to evoke the heritage and nostalgia of a family heirloom, like the quilt, into a modern, minimalist design.
